13 Tips to Get Your Home Market Ready!
Let’s keep this short and simple. Getting your home ready to sell doesn’t have to be a daunting task! Check out these tips I’ve put together to get you started!
1. Remove clutter
While this might sound easier said than done, it’s somewhere really important to start. Your favorite collection sitting on top of your mantel may just be hiding that beautiful mantel! That pile of mail, while organized neatly on your counter, maybe hiding that space that is valuable to a buyer. Remove the clutter, find an inconspicuous space for it or remove it completely from your home. Take it to the dump or rent a storage unit for it.
2. Depersonalize & neutralize
Your home will be on display for the public, it will be in MLS, websites like Zillow and Realtor.com and social media. Take down all your personal photos and anything worth monetary value. As well as neutralizing your space.
3. Fix it!
Repair those leaky faucets, holes and dings in your walls, or anything you know that could be a deal breaker. If your finances allow, get a home inspection to see what you can get started with and get those items repaired. Another useful inspection you could is a pest inspection. This inspection will point out any dry rot or leaky issues.
4. Change dimming and burnt out bulbs
Brighten those rooms! And turn all your lights on for your homes professional photo shoot and when prospective buyers come tour the home.
5. Deep clean your carpets
All homes have smells. Some pleasant and some not but most of the time we don’t notice those smells, or we forget about those stains. Clean your carpets, it’s worth it!
6. Clean your house
Get in those corners, dust those ceilings fans and knock down those cobwebs. If your budget allows, hire a cleaning company or person.
7. Wash your windows and repair those screens
THIS! Clean windows let in so much light! YouTube has plenty of videos to DIY those screen repairs and it’s relatively inexpensive to do.
8. If you got it, flaunt it!
Do you have something trendy in your home? Exposed brick? Barn doors? Shaker cabinets? Flaunt those trendy items in your home and showcase them!
9. Defined spaces
Create defined spaces to help buyers visualize what rooms could or should be used for!
10. Make smart improvements
Dollar for dollar the best improvements your home could have are new roofs, HVAC, windows and flooring. Besides dry rot repairs, these are the number one thing to come up on home inspection reports and what buyers ask for and expect to be taken care of.
11. Curb appeal
Step out front of your home and look to see what is missing or what needs to be missing. Hedge your bushes, plant some flowers and remove dead or dying plants.
12. Paint
This goes back to neutralizing your home. While you may love that neon yellow wall, it might be something buyers cannot look past.
13. Porches and patios
Pressure washing goes a long way! Remove the clutter, pressure wash and stage those porches and patios. I promise you, the effort won’t be overlooked!
